Documentation for FaST Talk Ver 1.00
If you are a Sysop that likes to chat with users (I am), I'm sure you get
frustrated with users who type slow. You watch character by character, and
you know what he's going to say, and you sit ready to type in your answer. Or,
Have you chatted with a user for a long time only to find out that it's 3 am
and you have to get up and get ready for work at 6? Instead of sitting and
waiting, you could be typing. FaST Talk splits the screen in half. The user
uses one half of the screen, and You (The Sysop) uses the other half. FaST
talk is a Full Duplex chat program, allowing both the user and the Sysop to
type at the same time! And, right in the middle at the right is the current
time updated every minute, so you know when to say goodbye. FaST Talk works
with any BBS that can run outside programs, AND with terminal programs like
Flash! that allow you to run TOS and GEM programs. Call a friend and chat
without waiting. FaST Talk uses the Atari VT52 escape codes to control the
cursor position, and any terminal that supports these codes should work. More
terminal types are upcoming.
Installing FaST Talk is easy too. Sysops of FoReM BBSs need to just set
the program up in the Doors Section. The program should run with ANY BBS that
can run outside programs. Terminal users don't need to install a thing. Just
load the program from inside your terminal. The program needs no parameters,
and no I/O redirection.
FaST Talk is very simple to use. When the user runs the program, he sees
the message in his window, "Paging the Sysop" The console bell rings at the
Sysop's end, and if the Sysop presses any key, chat is active. Otherwise, the
program exits. Once in chat mode either user can terminate by dropping carrier
or pressing the delete key.
FaST Talk is (C) Copyright 1988 by Dave Lockwood (All rights reserved.)
I have released it as shareware. If you like the program, and want me to
continue to support it, and make updates for different terminal types, Make
a donation to me ($5 suggested) And I will send you news of updates. If you
should find a bug <GASP> please send me a note describing the nature of the
bug and how I might reproduce it. Suggestions are welcome. I hope you find
this program as usefull as I.
